Great post. My husband has been selling used books on-line for 10 years…It’s not enough to fully support our family of 6, but it does afford us a lot of flexibility. We both work other odds and ends spot jobs and it ends up working out. We have also had the flexibility to be volunteer managers at a church camp in the summer. (Right now the camp can not afford a manager) I’m pioneering a women’s conference and event ministry. I’ve always been very greatful for the freedom we have. My husband helps at the kids schools, apointments are easy to make, and the stress is less. It’s been a sacrifice in some ways but worth the gains in time and flexibility for sure.

In some cases, working for a company is as easy as filling out a simple contract and then submitting invoices to its accounts payable department once you’ve finished a particular project. Make sure, if this is the case, that you keep track of all money invoiced and received so you can accurately include the additional income when you file taxes. You’ll also want to check with your accountant or the company’s human resources department to verify your tax situation and fill out any necessary paperwork for the IRS.

This is a great time for a concierge business or errand business startup. In many areas where there is significant development in the luxury market (residential and commercial), you will find increasing opportunity for concierge service providers. I remember my first job as a residential concierge, which helped me start a concierge business from home. The knowledge I acquired while employed by an established concierge business set the groundwork for my long-term career as a concierge business entrepreneur and author.

These are some good ways for an extra source of income. I have my own business that involves network marketing. For those who don’t know what that is, ill give a short explanation for it. Tommy Semosh, who has rented an 800-square-foot two-bedroom in Washington Heights for a decade, even managed to win over his landlord. Since 2011, his long, narrow kitchen with ample counter space has been the headquarters of Sweet Semosh, his vegan cookie business. Every night after his 9-to-5 publishing job, Mr. Semosh, 36, bakes an average of six dozen jam thumbprints and chocolate-chip cookies. A one-man enterprise, he also packages them and delivers them by subway to stores like the Westerly Natural Market in Midtown or the Uptown Veg and Juice Bar in Harlem.
And it's an ideal home business opportunity, especially as ecommerce is so easy to get into now. One of the main barriers to operating a successful e-commerce business is finding the right product or products to sell; the other is providing the kind of online environment that will make people want to buy from you rather than competitors. 8 Rules for a Successful Ecommerce Website provides information on how to do this.

I’ve done mystery shopping for about 10 years now. I started with Shadow Shopper…what a joke. I quickly learned…never pay anyone to get jobs. There are plenty of legit companies willing to pay YOU! I’ve been with Confero from the beginning and pretty much do one store for them, with over 100 locations in my area. I’ve made over $200 in a month, but most times around $50. I also belong to A Closer Look, ALTA360, Bestmark, Intellishop and Market Force. A Closer Look has very few shops, but they pay more, like $40 for a flooring shop. Do your research and you’ll be fine.
All homeowners are always on the lookout for ways to save on their utility bills. You can come to their aid by providing them with an audit of their house and giving them a breakdown of how they could accomplish real savings in heating, cooling and electrical use. You can go one step further and do the implementation and installation of some of your suggestions in their home yourself. Do a complete appliance audit, with efficiency ratings and calculations based on the age of the appliance. And don't forget the water heater!
A spinoff of the Homeowner Referral Network (HRN) business model, Aging in Place Referrals is a profitable and rewarding home based business! You’ll have to decide for yourself when to “formalize” your company by creating a legal structure like an LLC, buying liability insurance, and such. For advice on these matters, you can meet with volunteers at SCORE, and there are even places to get inexpensive legal help. Meanwhile, why not pull out a $100 bill and take a look at what you can do with it.
The village of Suffern borders New Jersey and is about 35 miles from Midtown Manhattan. Its 1,238 businesses bring in an average of over $7.9 million in annual revenue per business, the highest by far on the top 10 list. One of the biggest employers in the village is Avon Products Inc. — its Global Research and Development Facility is based here. Suffern is home to the regional Small Business Development Center at Rockland Community College.
This is a turnkey business opportunity and a proven business model in the ever growing billion dollar cell phone accessory industry. Low cost start-up, easy to run, & high profit margins. A winning combination.
Always remember to personally connect with neighbors, friends, and family and let them know about your services. You can also check out third-party platforms like Care.com, SitterCity, and Task Rabbit where they connect caretakers with caregivers. If you are connected with a job on one of these platforms they'll take a small percentage of the total transaction fee. In fact, the on-demand economy has made it easier than ever to make money on demand — to find out more check out this post.
And don’t forget social media as a home-based business. Many churches, other non profit charities, and business owners NEED to advertise via social media. You can either be hired to do theirs or become a consultant who trains their staff. Many churches don’t know the Internet laws like an avid social media user does. They’ll need someone to teach them how to use social media and protect their organization while doing it. Ask me how I know. 😉 My husband and I have worked with some organizations who refused to listen and they ended up with some scandals. Take a gander at what happened to Pastor Alios Bell’s ministry reputation when someone who knows social media happened upon her indiscretion at Applebee’s. Google it. It went viral.
The online business environment is highly competitive. With most readers and potential customers having a 3-second attention span, not only do businesses have to create attractive and useful content, but they also need to find ways to drive traffic to their platforms. More often than not, this requires paid ads from substantial search engines such as Google and platforms like Facebook.

Do you adore babies? “A birth doula is an individual who offers one-on-one support for a woman in labor as well as her partner and family. Establish yourself as an authority in your niche and strive to be the best in it. You should always choose a niche topic that you’ll never grow tired of learning more about. With this online business opportunity, people create their YouTube channels and websites, conduct webinars, or write eBooks to share their expertise with others who may be willing to subscribe or even pay for what they have to offer.
Then you can move on to more immersive sales education through online courses like Sales Training and Prospecting on Udemy, The Guide to Pitching and Selling Clients on CreativeLive. Once you're ready to put your selling skills to the test, check out Angel List and see if any sales position opportunities align with your interests—the last thing you want to do is get stuck selling products or services you're not interested in. However, by starting out your sales career as a side business idea, that gives you the flexibility to easily change courses if you ever need to.
It’s not just about the number of hours, either. It’s about the flexibility. Some positions, like home-based telemarketing, require workers to be available at certain times during the day. That might not work if you’ve got kids to watch or shuttle, or if you’re taking on a home-based business in addition to a full-time job. If you need flexibility, working for yourself or direct marketing and selling is probably best for you. Want a strict schedule? Working for a company as a virtual assistant, transcriptionist, or in another position is a better idea.
The health app Achievement gives you points for healthy actions like walking, tracking your food, or taking health surveys.  You earn points which can be redeemed for cash or Amazon Gift Cards.  For every 10,000 points, you earn $10 and there is no limit on your earnings. It connects to your phone and fitness apps you may have like your Fitbit, Apple Watch, or MyFitnessPal. You can earn 10 points just for signing up with Achievement and connecting an app.
For a certain kind of person (i.e., the hermetic kind), blogging is a true dream job: You get to write about your passions, test out new products/recipes/lifehacks (or whatever your specialty is), and earn money through advertising or by earning sponsorships from companies in exchange for reviews—all without ever needing to get out of bed. It takes some time, dedication, and hard work to build up your readership enough to make blogging your full-time job. But, if you stick with it, you just might join the ranks of the world’s top-earning bloggers.

The sad truth is that for all the SEO consultants out there who know exactly what they're talking about, there are hundreds of others who are clueless, money-grabbing sharks. Their sole focus is on getting customers signed up to a 6-month retainer based on promised results. They then kick their heels for the first few months, pocketing cash for doing nothing.
"Find the balance and find it early! My kids are in school from 9am to 3:30pm. I work 10am to 3pm and try only to work weekends when necessary. So I've got time to get dinner going and pick them up at school without my career choice affecting them too much. I also include them in as much as I can – you'll find my 5 and 7-year-olds stamping hands at the door at my craft shows, or running appetizers at my open houses."

Insurance is an industry that hires a lot of telecommuters, and the work-from-home jobs available are quite a diverse lot, ranging from underwriters and appraisers to case managers and insurance agents, as well as positions in IT and project management. While many insurance companies hire these positions directly as work-at-home jobs, others may offer flexible options for existing employees or part-time telecommuting.
